REGISTERING OUT-OF-STATE VEHICLES
1. Title and Registration. If the title shows a lien and you are from a non-titleholding state, you must present a copy of your loan contract or lien release. If you are from the state where the lien holder holds your title, an Arizona registration may be obtained by presenting your registration and name and address of the named lien holder.
2. Emissions Test. State law requites that vehicles have a pollution check unless they are 1967 models or older. Vehicles must either pass or be issued a waiver.
3. Physical Inspection. The make and identification number of your vehicles must be verified. The correct body style must also be determined.
4. Plates. Out-of-State plates must be turned in before Arizona registration and plates can be issued.
5. Signatures. Signatures must be signed in front of a State Motor Vehicle Division agent or notary public. If more then on name is on the application for Arizona title, those signatures must also appear on the application.
6. Insurance. Insurance is mandatory. Name of insurance company and policy number must be entered on affidavit.
7. Seat Belts. Arizona law requires drivers and passengers to use safety belts when they ride in a passenger vehicle on Arizona roadways. The law states that a person my be issued a citation only when the officer has stopped the vehicle for another reason. A child under four years of age and/or less then 40 pounds in weight must be placed in a properly secured child safety seat. Violation of the mandatory child passenger safety law remains a primary offense.
